Did you know the word Shangri-La originated from the pages of James Hilton’s 1930s novel Lost Horizon? It is an inspiring tale of life imitating art, and it is where an unspoiled paradise, unlike anything anyone had ever experienced on earth before this hotel was discovered. The first Shangri-La hotel opened in Singapore in 1971 and marked the start of a new standard for hotel excellence. It is was a drastic change and redefined what it meant to be “a true host”.
